Major General (res.) Gershon Hacohen

Served in the IDF for 42 years, including as a corps commander, and commander of the Military Colleges.

General Hacohen served in the IDF for 42 years, commanding troops in battle on the Egyptian and Syrian fronts. When he retired, he was the last serving IDF officer to have fought in the Yom Kippur War; against Syrian troops on Syrian soil and against Egyptian troops on the southern front. He served as commander of the IDF Military Colleges and commander of the Northern Corps. For the past decade, he has overseen the IDF’s major war games exercises. He also commanded over Israel’s disengagement from Gaza. He is the author of What’s National in National Security (Hebrew, 2015), which is a discourse on values and vision in the crafting of national security doctrine. He is working books about Israel’s disengagement from Gaza and on Israel’s military needs in Judea and Samaria. His recent publications include Russian Strategic Logic and A Two-State Solution? Just Not According to the Clinton Parameters.
