Idan Roll is an expert in foreign policy, security and public diplomacy.

He served as Israel’s deputy minister of foreign affairs and as a member of Knesset from 2019 – 2025. During his parliamentary tenure he was a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Additionally, he chaired the Israel-US Parliamentary Friendship Group and founded the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Caucus.

Alongside his public service, Mr. Roll’s professional experience extends to the technology and legal sectors. As a lawyer by training, he specialized in high tech and international mergers and acquisitions. He subsequently worked in business development in the high-tech industry, with a focus on defense tech and the commercialization of dual-use technologies.

Mr. Roll is a major (res.) in the IDF Intelligence Corps, where he served in a technology unit and holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. in Public Law from Tel Aviv University.

He is the author of “Opening the Club” (2024), which analyzes Israel’s political and social landscape post-October 7 and advocates for structural reforms to enable the renewal of national leadership.

His research at the Institute focuses on: national security, foreign policy, public diplomacy, Israel-US relations and Diaspora Jewry.
