From Italian: Comparisons with Qatar are inevitable, and we discuss them with Ariel Admoni, a researcher at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security (JISS), where he studies Qatari politics, society, and media. According to Admoni, both countries built their influence on their ability to communicate with actors hostile to one another, but with several fundamental differences. Doha developed its diplomatic influence mainly through mediation with Islamist movements and non-state actors, from the Taliban to Hamas. Oman, by contrast, specialized in quiet diplomacy.
