Will Iraqi territory be used to fire rockets on Israel from Iran?
Maj. Gen. (res.) Yaakov Amidror: Israel needs to be ready to take military risks to prevent Iran from establishing its own forces in Syria.
Israel’s opposition to Iranian entrenchment in Syria and Lebanon is twofold: To prevent Iran from building a beachhead against Israel through its proxies on Israel’s borders, and to impede development of Iran’s nuclear and long-range missile capabilities. Israel is absolutely determined and prepared to act forcefully against Iran, which could lead to a full-scale war. Israel must win this struggle against Iran, one way or another.
No Matter Who Wins the Syrian Civil War, Israel Loses.
General Amidror: “We cannot do everything, but we can do a lot to force the Iranians to decide if they are ready to pay the price” for their intervention in Syria.
With an eye on Syria, Israel seeks broader truce in Gaza.
General Amidror: Israel needs to focus on the real issue: Iran in Syria, not on Hamas.

Israeli muscle has left the Jewish state with only 1.5 security problems: Iran and Hezbollah. But that doesn’t mean the next conflict won’t be “a very, very nasty war.”
The latest round of violence on the Israel-Gaza border has followed its familiar pattern. Neither party wants to blink first; whoever does will be at a disadvantage down the line.
Israel would prefer not to go to war with Hamas over kite terrorism but Gaza’s rulers should not confuse that with apprehension. The simple fact is that clear priorities must be set and Israel must decide which of the threats it faces is truly urgent.
One hundred kilometers between war and peace in Syria?
General Amidror: Confronting Iran in Syria now is preferable than allowing the Islamic Republic to build up its military capability in Syria on par with that of Hizbullah’s in Lebanon.
