Dear Subscribers,
Over the past month, the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security (JISS) has been deeply engaged in analyzing the critical issues shaping Israel’s security and foreign policy. At the forefront is the ongoing debate over the release of hostages and the future of Gaza, set against the backdrop of negotiations and new U.S. proposals for addressing this complex challenge. Our experts have not only examined the situation from multiple perspectives but have also raised a fundamental question: Does Israel’s approach reflect a weakening of its national resilience?
As subscribers, we invite you to take part in an open discussion and share your thoughts in response to Prof. Efraim Inbar’s article on the matter. In the coming months, we will continue to explore key strategic issues and look forward to your insights.
Iran has remained a major focus of our work, with in-depth analysis and media appearances by JISS experts. Maj. Gen. (res.) Yaakov Amidror has provided a comprehensive assessment of shifts along the northern front and their impact on Iran’s regional strategy. Col. (res.) Eran Lerman has examined internal dynamics within Iran in a series of articles, and I have contributed an analysis to US News & World Report.
We have also turned our attention to the global arena, particularly President Trump’s efforts to bring Russia closer to the United States and end the war in Ukraine. The implications for the Middle East and Israel are explored in a joint article by Eran Lerman and Lt. Col. (res.) Daniel Rakov, JISS’s expert on Russia and Eastern Europe.
More thought-provoking articles on these and other topics are already in the pipeline, so we encourage you to stay tuned.
Beyond research, JISS is expanding and reorganizing. Col. (res.) Gabi Siboni has been appointed as the institute’s CEO and will focus on operational management while continuing to contribute research and analysis on critical security issues. We are also pleased to welcome Jonathan Hessen as a senior researcher responsible for the Syria and Lebanon arenas. We wish them success in their new roles.
In our next newsletter, we will introduce the institute’s updated structure and additional researchers. We look forward to continuing this important dialogue with you.
Brig. Gen. (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser
Head of Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security
